Why Lube Changes Everything (and How to Choose the Right One)

Lubricant is one of the most underrated upgrades to any intimate experience, whether solo or with a partner — and yet it’s often treated as an afterthought. The right lube reduces friction, increases comfort, and for many people, meaningfully increases pleasure and reduces the risk of irritation.

Water-based lubricants are the most versatile option: safe with all toy materials and condoms, though they’ll need reapplying more often since they absorb into skin. Silicone-based lubes last much longer and feel silkier, but shouldn’t be used with silicone toys, as they can break down the material over time. Oil-based options feel rich and long-lasting but are not condom-safe and can be harder to wash off.

For most people starting out, a quality water-based lube is the safest, most flexible choice — you can always add a silicone-based option later for specific situations.
