Silicone vs Glass vs Steel: Choosing an Anal Toy Material

Material affects more than just how a toy feels — it changes temperature play options, cleaning routine, and firmness. Silicone is the most common choice for beginners: it’s soft, warms to body temperature quickly, and is very forgiving to use. It does require water-based lubricant, since silicone lube can degrade silicone toys over time.

Glass and stainless steel are firmer, non-porous, and can be warmed or cooled for temperature play — many people find the weight of steel particularly satisfying. Both are compatible with any lubricant type, including silicone-based, which is a nice bonus.

Whichever material you pick, always confirm it’s from a reputable brand using body-safe, non-porous material, and check for a properly flared base regardless of what it’s made from.
