Even with the right lube in hand, a few common mistakes can undercut the experience. Using too little is the most frequent one — most people apply far less than they actually need, then wonder why things still feel uncomfortable. More is almost always better than less.
Matching lube type to toy material matters too: silicone lubricant and silicone toys don’t mix well over the long run, since the lube can degrade the toy’s surface. When in doubt, water-based is compatible with everything.
Finally, check ingredients if you’re prone to irritation — some lubes contain glycerin or added flavourings that can cause sensitivity for some people. A simple, fragrance-free water-based formula is usually the gentlest place to start.
